Happy Father’s Day

Two posts today – this first one is of a poem a wrote a couple of years ago now, and can be found in tha POEMS list to tha right. I recently came across some video footage of my Father at work on a small-town church steeple. I could be wrong, but he may have even donated his time on this particular occasion. But don’t get me wrong, high and hazardous work, including tha restoration of steeples, is how he earns a living. I just thought many of tha images and symbols in these video clips complemented tha poem perfectly.

What do you think????

The day this video was shot was exactly one year after my father had a horrible accident at work. Suffering a number of broken bones, inluding a femur and a shattered ankle, he was not able to even take one step during many of those months. It was sad how quickly he seemed to “lose” much of his hard-earned strength from a lifetime of labor. But what was even more amazing was how fast he got it back. You can’t teach an old dog new tricks and you certainly can’t keep a good man down. If he doesn’t embody these two statements I don’t know who does. Despite my wishes, he was soon back to his old “tricks” – climbing and performing dangerous tasks. I think its about more than earning wages. Its got to be. I mean, I know his wage earning is all about “providing,” but there’s something more there, as well. To see tha world everyday from a bird’s eye-view. He really is such a care-taker and provider, too.

Perhaps he is perched on high so that he may always see his children….

Happy Dad’s Day, Dad
