Time

So have you gone to see Inception yet?

Hans Zimmer is responsible for the brilliant score of the film. The acclaimed German composer that created soundtracks for movies such as The Dark Knight, Gladiator, and even the video game Call of Duty Modern Warfare.

The track above is one of the favorites from the entire soundtrack. It plays at the end of the movie, and delivers a truly epic feel to the conclusion. The song by itself will make the hair stand up on the back of your neck.

More Shout Outs

Gotta make a quick post thanking Dave Frisina for having me on Syracuse’s very own SOUNDCHECK on TK99 (Syracuse FM Radio 99.5) this past Sunday…

Nobody has done more for local musicians over tha years than Dave. He has full reign over his radio programming….and he obviously doesn’t mind stepping out of tha “classic rock” box from time to time.

Tha music he features every Sunday night from 9-10pm ranges from folk to funk, from rock to rap. He even did a live showcase with my peoples – Sophistafunk – live from Shify’s (on Burnett in tha ‘Cuse). Dave is tha man.  He’ll be gettin me a recording of our interview and my live recital of “Tha Birth of Lit-Hop.”  I’ll put it on tha multimedia page ASAP

Shout Outs

Yesterday you might have heard me on Power 106.9 on Syracuse FM Radio, shouting out tha Underground Poetry Spot, founder Seneca Wilson…and of course my bday party featuring Kom Plex and Eric Darby…  Big shout out to DJ Kenny Dees and to my friends and colleagues, Mia Burse and James Austin.

Of course, respect to Archie The Messenger and Lyrical The Lyricist, as well…  Their show, “No Stage,” and tha preceding Youth Exhibition, produced by Renaissance Culture Movement, provided tha avenue for me to mention Syracuse’s local spoken word movement…THE UNDERGROUND POETRY SPOT.  Seneca and I watched Archie and Lyrical in January when RCM produced their first Syracuse show, “An Evening of Expression.”  We we exuberantly pleased to see a crowd matching our own in quality and quantity, yet with very little overlapping with our audience.  We knew we would soon be teaming with very like-minded individuals, to cross-promote and potentially work together in even greater fashions.  I believe I speak for tha crew, when I say the UPS looks forward to a great relationship with RCM,

…and we vow to continue to offer Syracuse entertainment that is as educational and informative, as it is inspirational and uplifiting.

And what an amazing weekend next Friday and Saturday (July 30-31) will provide to kick it all off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dylan Goes Electr…onica On Rhode Island

Dylan on the tables

First of, for those of you who didn’t notice… Let me welcome micthapoet.com’s newest contributor and post-man: “TMF” gonna be deliverin’ tha news now, too – and he kicked it off right w/ a new joint from electro-sensations, HOT CHIP

Perfect timing TMF !  …Since I just yesterday discovered this article from The Onion and was def about to post it!

Love me some Dylan.  He’s just an interesting dude and he was first doing his thing at a point where people were really listening.  …But dude is smart and has (almost humorously, now) always managed to stay relevant, and “with the times.” - i would argue he’s always been ahead of tha curve… and pulling this whole ”electronica” thing at tha Newport Rock Festival – brilliant.  It is so Dylan.

OBVIOUSLY…

That is to say I was, at first, incredibly surprised that theonion.com writer did not directly signify tha many nostalgic parallels to Dylan’s infamous and controversial performance at tha Newport “Folk” Festival…45 years ago!!  (which is INSANE to think about!).  I have linked to a site, here, which I believe gives a fair overview of what allegedly took place during a young Bob Dylan’s Newport set in 1965.  I also found wikipedia to offer substantial information, for those who are unfamiliar with tha “controversy,” – and through wikipedia you can find numerous links to movies and such, in which tha Newport ’65 set is highlighted.

So – bravo Dylan!  If one tries to google ”Dylan Newport Controversy” you are  guaranteed to land a huge number of links…and you are almost guaranteed to pick a link highlighting news from July of ’65, not July of 2010. I think Dylan has a great sense of humor.  On some level, i think, he is definitely poking fun at tha supposed controversy, and making he and it relevant once more.

And, in what can only be described as hilariously staged irony, The Onion has a man quoted as saying “We came here to see the authentic Dylan, the one with the Stratocaster guitar and signature wild blues-rock band behind him.”  LOL, right?
