Over My Shoulder (Jeremiah Howell)

One of tha greatest things about immersing oneself in art, is the friendships made along tha journey and tha other artists I find myself interacting and brainstorming with. I have been fortunate to have tha support of so many of my peers; poets, musicians, photographers, and artists of all walks of life.

If you’ve paid any attention to tha poems on this site, you have likely seen a handful of Sandusky Images photographer Jeremiah Howell‘s shots. Jeremiah has been kind enough to allow me to use many of his images to accompany my poetry here on micthapoet.com. My walls at home are adorned with two of his framed images, one of which was a gift, upon his moving from Syracuse to Vermont late last year.

“Over My Shoulder” is tha third book of photography Jeremiah has published, and perhaps his most passionate collection of visionary images yet. In his tertiary installment, the author has included bits of his own poetry to add intrigue to the complexities of city life captured digitally. In many ways, “Over My Shoulder” is a poetic-photographic memoir; a journey, from cover to back-cover, through the many observations of a man and his camera – in a landscape left behind.

Please support Jeremiah by clicking on tha above picture or any of tha links. This will allow you to purchase “Over My Shoulder,” and other titles by Sandusky Images photographer Jeremiah Howell.

…and please continue to support all your local artists
& a BIG THANX for your continued support here at micthapoet.com

Stay With Us…

So we are still workin on makin some changes around here…and in tha meantime i’ve been focusing on all the upcoming events here in April…

As i posted recently, i was tha subject of a photo shoot w/ KHall Photography a couple weeks ago…as soon as i get my final digital edits we will be making a new home page for tha site…at that point tha site will focus less on the straight blog and will offer much more as far as upcoming events and discussion forums.  Myself and tha web team will both post to tha blog from time to time, when tha mood strikes, lol, but you will have to choose “blog” from the home page menu to read tha posts…  simple enough, right?

So stay with us here at micthapoet.com… Things are really starting to pick up for MTP and of course the UNDERGROUND POETRY SPOT continues to go hard… there have been so many collaborations and poems inspired by one another that it has truly become a second home for many of us…good looks to Emotionless for his DEDICATION - here is what kid had to say about me:

“I heard the poet speak Mic tha Poet that is & I was like damn this white boy is NYCEEE!!!

The way he flowed gave my ears pain of joy he spit without missing a beat no lines just words w/o papers

a milli lines he kept it all in his head knowing each word like he knows his paints”

That’s what i’m talking about.

peace,

mtp

Photo Shoot with KHall Photography

OK OK so i apologize for not posting anything lately…and i am still figuring out tha new server, so BEAR WITH ME, lol.

we are working on changing a few things around, and there will soon be a new HOME PAGE featuring new photo(s) of yours truly…courtesy of KHall Photography (preview above)

I have been EXTREMELY busy preparing myself for April, as it is Nat’l Poetry Month.  Some dates are still not finalized, but there are SO MANY incredible things happening for Mic Tha Poet and tha Syracuse Spoken Word scene this April

Here is a little preview of what is in store:

* We will gather at the Underground Poetry Spot EACH of tha first four Thursdays in April.  The dates are April 1st, April 8th, April 15th, and April 22nd.  I will be hosting on tha 1st and on tha 15th

* On April 8th we will feature tha spoken-word of Jack Brown, frontman of tha immensely popular Syracuse-based band SOPHISTAFUNK

* On APRIL 15th we are proud to announce that we will be featuring tha Spoken Word poetry of tha one and only TAALAM ACEY  at the UNDERGROUND POETRY SPOT!!!!!! Taalam is tha most recognizable voice in tha modern Spoken Word Revolution.  I am a big fan and am incredibly honored to host in his presence.  We will be selling advance tickets for only $5, but tha price will double at tha door, so if you will be in Syracuse on tha 15th of April, I suggest you contact me or Seneca Wilson.  If you are unfamiliar with Mr. Acey, shame on YOU, lol.  Google him

* Oh yeah – I am auditioning TONIGHT for Syracuse University’s TAKE THE MIC POETRY SLAM to be held next month

* Myself and Melissa Bamerick are organizing and hosting tha first ever TEEN “MIC THA POETS” SLAM (& Workshop) to be held on April 24th at tha WATER ST. CAFE at 133 Water Street in Syracuse’s Hanover Square.  This will be a daytime event, from 12:30 – 4:00 and will feature poetry from 3 local artists, as well as tha workshop facilitation.  Tha day long event will culminate in a three-round poetry slam for Syracuse area teens only, between tha ages of 13 and 19.

* I will alson be performing on April 1st at Syracuse University as part of a celebration of  Multi-Cultural Affairs…I am awaiting tha details

*On April 29th and 30th I will be at Mt. Vernon High School in Alexandria, Virginia for a two-day Poetry Performance and meet-and-greet with tha students.  Event organized by Melinda Bloomquist of MVHS.

……..Ok, so details and specific posts regarding each event will soon follow.  Please stay tuned and help me make this tha best damn Month of Poetry Syracuse has ever seen!
