“Cinematic Poetry” by India Clark (aka Yaya)

I am Gone with the wind, someone please tell me Which Way is Up?
I have met this Ironman who has me Sprung, now I’m running around like I’m on some Funny Farm,

I understand that I am this Pretty Woman, with eyes the color of Brown Sugar
But the way he made my Love Jones come down, has me feeling like Lady Sings The Blues,

He knows I’ve enjoyed having Sex…in the city, with a few Goodfellas…you know, The Usual Suspects
And he should know that I do not enjoy playing The Crying Game,

I dated a Leo before -haha – I called him The Lion King, but he had a bad habit of
Secrets and Lies, soon there became Six Degrees of Separation between us,
I got tired of Waiting to Exhale and decided to Do the Right Thing,

I boarded an Airplane that moved through The Air up There quite swiftly; when it landed I found myself Sleepless in Seattle, in my dreams I was Romancing the Stone
In A Room with a View, I began to remove my clothes and found myself Dirty Dancing,

When the evening fell, I walked and saw a woman, she was Singing…In The Rain
I asked her name, she said “Roxanne.” She was Barefoot in The Park, she told me she doesn’t wear shoes, she likes to feel the earth move under her feet; told me a story of how she used to work Sunset Boulevard and how her hard life gave her a Braveheart

She reminded me to cherish every breath and how this is A Wonderful Life. She said “Love, is a Many-Splendored Thing.” Now that is what I call…A Walk to Remember…

Tha Bard

It wouldn’t be much of a Nat’l Poetry Month without shouting out tha man, tha myth, and tha legend that is William Shakespeare

Perhaps many of you are familiar with the Shakespeare Sonnet-A-Day website and emailing list??? Well if you are not, it is a great way to receive insightful classic poetry directly to your email inbox. It does not actually come every day either – so as to not clutter your inbox, they send about three a week i think. (My father would say it is eithrer three or it isn’t three, and he would be right, I suppose… but i digress…)

Well I’m off to host the Underground Poetry Spot again. Tonight my favortite up and coming emcee and lyricist will be burning up tha stage. Jack Brown, of Syracuse’s very own Sophistafunk…Jack is a graduate of SU and Sophistafunk’s frontman, a band that infuses hip-hop and funk with Jack’s witty raps. Tonight he will grace our stage solo, and show tha rest of tha spot why I have been trying to put our underground mic on this POET. Jack Brown is a beast

..um…yeah…about those TPS Reports

Ah, good ol’ Bill Lumbergh. God I love Office Space

And, Ok, so maybe i’m a lil’ behind on my “a Verse a Day” promise…but like my dude Zac Brown says in a great song being overplayed on “country” radio: “please don’t mistake me for a man who didn’t care at all”

Truly. I am really putting my best foot forth for this Nat’l Poetry Month.
Working hard.
…at what you ask…?

…mostly …relating to people. Opening a doorway from one soul to another – if I’m lucky, and if I’m on point, I can open many doors all at once. It is a sight to behold.

Well i suppose that’s my “verse,” or “idea” for the day. Sometimes tha words seem nearly interchangeable to me…

I mean it could be a verse, but its more like ideas about the thing, and not necessarily the thing itself…or wait…are there no ideas but in things??? Anyway ya slice it, theres a little bit of poetry nostalgia in there if you follow tha links…

Happy Nat’l Poetry Month

You Can Be My Butler…

Aw man, it’s tough being into poetry when the Orange are entering the Sweet 16. Check out this video from The Post-Standard with Rautins, Johnson and Scoop getting ready for tonight’s game.

But in April we’ll go from “March Madness” to “National Poetry Month”, so don’t fret. A number of events with the Underground Poetry Spot and Mic Tha Poet are on the horizon.

However, tonight we’re looking forward to watching Butler get served a nice tall, cold glass of OJ.

With no eggs and bacon, just shame.
