Kind of a One ft. Symphonie

Nice show at tha GEAR FACTORY tonight, Archie and Lyrical work nicely together.

and….uh…upon meeting Lyrical The Lyricist, i take back my comment regarding tha questionable redundancy of his name, lol…he’s a great dude with an open mind and a lot of passion for what he’s doing, for real…

so i just threw this video of our Underground Poetry Spot’s FOUNDER Seneca Wilson aka “Kind Of A One” up here just as a reminder how we try and ecourage collaborative poetry and creative teamwork, as well. You know WORDS and i workin’ together, and my boy Marquise Woolford aka “Prophesa X” and I workin on something next…Surely Sen and I and hopefully at least one more poet will find time to do a piece with three or more voices, sooner than later…

anyway, maybe i’ve even posted this before, i can’t remember. It’s Seneca with fellow Underground Poet Simone Owens aka “Symphonie” lending her voice.

Starting this Thursday at tha UPS we will begin our variety of BATTLING. Meaning, at some point we will will give tha floor to two poets, one after another, and only one will emerge victorious. However, tha point isn’t to dis each other or simply brag and boast, tha point is to discover which of your poems are crowd pleasers and also to improve stage presence, poetry, and performance abilities through honest crowd feedback. Tha crowd will judge tha poems with applause based on their interpretations of substance and performance. Thee “victorious” poet will defend his or her title at tha next Underground Poetry Spot gathering, and so on….

I’ll post here who will be first two poets up – as soon as i know…Seneca, Cedric and had a great time at tha show…Sen and i talked about tha UPS but never got much into details…

RESPECT again to Writing4MyLife (Archie and Lyrical, their web link is on tha post below…
RESPECT to Poetry to the People, too…another tandum we’ve featured here on tha site before…
RESPECT to tha two dudes who spoke together last night at DIRT CHURCH, who were dope, but whose names i didn’t catch…

and much thanks to my fam for helping me out lately… this wouldn’t be possible without your love and support.

same to u WEB TEAM. awwwwwwwwwwwwww

Swagg Bag Surfin’

Here’s “two minutes of messing around on various baggage claims around the USA” with Jake Chessum.

I’m fairly certain if we did this, we’d get tazed bro and then mule kicked 50 times by TSA. But that’s assuming they can do anything but wave wands and throw out shampoo.

…We’re just kiddin’, we love errrport securrrity. It should be tougher than it is now! Shape it up!

But if it were then I guess we wouldn’t have the complete mockery of it above.

Anyway, if we saw Jake doing this at our baggage claim, …he’d get tazed like a disobedient silly circus monkey.

The Gear Factory

bout to go scoop up Seneca and head out to tha GEAR FACTORY. Back in tha Cuse now from my trip to Jersey. Gonna check out these cats “Archie The Messenger” and “Lyrical The Lyricist”…

gotta admit I woulda went with either just “Lyrical” or “Tha Lyricist” but i ain’t hatin’…dude’s pretty tight no matter what ya call him…

Tha first dude to spit is Lyrical, and he def kills it. Heavy “rap” style, at least in this vid… tha whole set up of tha vid and tha team work is pretty dope tho…ya know i appreciate so many different styles, its crazy…i can go straight from this to some folk music or a Shakespearean tragedy. I find tha poetry. It’s all art.

Well, gotta run… if you in tha Cuse and can leave like NOW…head out to

STEVIE/TAALAM/LAMAR

You all know i am a big fan of Mr. Taalam Acey…and how could i not be a fan of tha timeless master who is STEVIE WONDER????????

I was def excited to come across this video of Taalam being interviewed by tha Wondrous One. I will never forget dancing around in complete innocence and exuberance as a very young boy to Stevie and so many more classics. In fact my bro and i always talk about tha very wood-box record player those gems were spun on…

I will be heading towards Newark (Maplewood, NJ) later on to check out Taalam as he is tha featured poet at LAMAR HILL presents DIRT CHURCH… Taalam is a Newark legend and I’m def pumped to see him live finally.

Some people may get turned off for a moment in Taalam’s first piece of this interview, when he briefly mentions tha great numer of imitators and copycats that have bit his style. Like he is always so aware of doing, he instantly resorts to a righteous “turning of tha cheek,” so to say, and reminds us that his intentions are not to dwell on tha negative, but to always aspire to be only more greatly “refined.”

I’ve often said Taalam will go down as one of tha more significant bridges that will allow hip-hop back to its simplest rhythmic roots, while once again infused with tha intelligence of a consciensous man. I must agree that many of tha modern Spoken-Word artists i have familiarized myself with, including many of tha HBO aired “Def Poets,” have adopted a style similar to his own. In fact, when i first started i was immediately spurned (or at least met with skepticism) by others and, inevitably, by myself, for recognizing my style to be quite unlike that of Acey’s. Eventually, i came to embrace this blessing, and i have since strived to be tha best ME i can be; always keeping my heart in tha right place, and always wondering where to focus my given talents.

As i always say “a gift that is nurtured and explored will manifest itself as talent. If we work hard, we will recieve tha greatest gift of all; tha ability to share our talents as gifts, again and again…”

If you are in tha tri-state area please come support two of Spoken-Words’ greatest speakers. *LAMAR HILL presents DIRT CHURCH featuring TAALAM ACEY*
