For a mother, loving a child is not just something you do,
it becomes the only thing that matters and all that is true;
Thus, if truth be beauty, as the young poet once said
then let a crown of roses be placed upon this Mother’s head
MOTHER: Oh, son my child, please come up to bed
there will be plenty of time tomorrow to fill up your head
Now is time for sleeping, and dreams will come soon
a boy needs to rest by the soft light of the moon
BOY: But I’m not ready for bed, I’m still pretending to be
a famous artist – look – I drew a picture for thee!
The boy showed his drawing, and to his mother exclaimed
BOY: One day I’ll be famous, one and all will know my name!
MOTHER: Oh, so now you want to be an artist?
I thought you wanted to teach?
BOY: I also want to be a lawyer, Mom
I’ve given thought to each…
With a smile, the Mother assured her child that she would be there, all the while…
MOTHER: No matter what it is you choose to do
Know that i will always be here for you
And in a way that only a Mother can, she then gave some advice to her little man. She said
MOTHER: Son, in your lifetime, you are sure to see
lots of people, doing lots of…things
But just remember, though -
When someone tries telling you there are no guarantees,
and someone else tells you that nothing comes free
You can tell them they’re wrong because there is one thing, you see
that is truly unconditional and will always be
It is a gift that was given from someone who knew
that the journey of life needs some seeing through;
So just as the stars have shown many their way through the night -
I too, will guide you Son, through darkness and strife
The boy safely smiled, as she kissed him goodnight,
knowing in his heart his Mother was right…
Perhaps not right then, but we would come to know
the strength of his Mother and the weight that she’s towed;
And while she would be the first to say that nothing is owed
the boy now aspires to repay her ten-fold
BOY (grown-up): Throughout my life, with all that I’ve had
to squander it all I would have to be mad
Opportunity, dressed in silver, time and again served to me
With a side of encouragement you provided the means
for me to reach my potential, Mom, and eventually
do all the things I once wanted to be
Now as we have all grown wiser, it is so much clearer to see
that we don’t have forever to make good on our dreams
So this little boy is chasing his with a renewed sincerity…
And I do finally know what I want to be -
Above everything else…a great Son, and part of a great family
So when I think of you MOTHER – all you do, and all you’ve done…
I can only hope that you are as proud of your Son
Love ya, Mom…happy Mother’s Day 2010 !!!
