This past Sunday was Mothers Day, May 9th. I would like to use this as inspiration for a poetry contest…and because Father’s Day is also right around the corner on June 21st. For anyone who is interested, I will receive and personally read poems in celebration of Mother’s Day and/or Father’s Day, (only one entry per contestant). In the event that you are being raised by someone other than your mother or father and you would like to participate, I will read poems from those contestants in celebration of their chosen loved one (ie., grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles, big brother, sister, cousin etc…). If you are raising a child and you want to commemorate Mother’s or Father’s day from your perspective as a parent, you may do that as well. Remember: dare to be different!!! …some guidelines must be set, but as long as your poem is appropriate, it will be considered. I will accept poems until Wednesday, June17th. With the assistance of the Underground Poetry Spot poets I will choose a contest winner. I will read tha “winning” poem at our Underground Poetry Spot open-mic in Syracuse, NY, on Thursday, June 16th and post it on my blog on Father’s Day.
One entry per contestant; all styles of verse and prose will be reviewed and considered alike, if in good taste and in accordance with tha theme. Out of a concern for time, poems must be 500 words or less. Entry period ends at 9pm, Wednesday, June 17th. This is not a cash-prize contest nor is it a publishing-rights contest. Those deemed “winning” poems will be displayed strictly for entertainment and educational purposes only. No revenue will be generated by Michael Gaut aka “Mic” tha Poet or by micthapoet.com from the sale or advertising of contestant entries.
GOOD LUCK,
mtp
